There is Nothing Called "Christ Consciousness"

Correcting Both Oprah and Eckhart Tolle

Anytime people ask me a biblical question, as a Sunday school teacher, I want the Bible to answer that question by itself, not me. The Word of God can stand on its own merit without any help from anybody. The gospel of confusion introduced by the New Age Eckhart Tolle joined by Oprah implies that Jesus came to reveal "Christ consciousness." Contrary to that notion, this is what Jesus said:

"I can of myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and my judgment is righteous, because I do not seek my own will, but the will of the Father who sent me" (St. John 5:30).

"If I bear witness of myself my witness is not true" (St. John 5:31).

"My doctrine is not mine; but he who sent me. If anyone wills to do his will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God or whether I speak on my own authority. He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is true, and no unrighteousness is in him" (St. John 7:16-18).

If anybody calls him or herself a Christian, that person either believes in the Words of Jesus, or the person may not be a true Christian. Sadly many Christians do not read their Bible. They only rely on what people are telling them about Christ. Jesus did not claim to come and reveal his consciousness. He came to reveal the will of the Father who sent him to this world. Jesus made this very clear throughout his ministry. The gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ is not an egocentric doctrine, but God centered and divine message. When people are talking about "Christ consciousness," they have reduced Jesus to just a mere philosopher, or an ordinary preacher. There is nothing called "Christ consciousness!" This is absolute nonsense! Jesus is the Son of God who came to earth, not to reveal himself, but to reveal the heart of the Father to the world.

I am not an Oprah basher, however, I believe if there is error in messages being preached about Jesus. We, his servants have the right to make a correction and defend the messages of Our Master Jesus Christ. Here is the danger. We cannot make Jesus into whom we think he ought to be. Jesus already defined who he is. When God sends his messengers on a mission, he also gives them instructions with a mantle. When they refuse to obey his instructions, they face the consequences of their disobedience. Moses was a wonderful messenger of God. But when he got angry with the people and did his own thing, God responded and banned him from the Promise Land. Consequently, we should not be putting words in Jesus’ mouth in order to justify our opinion about him, or our lifestyle.

The gospel message is not about human emotions, it is about human faith in God. Human emotions serves human’s physical body, but his faith serves human spirit, with his reliance on the Holy Spirit. Even Jesus said that in the end, the human flesh is worthless, but the spirit is what is important. Human spirit has to be guided by the Holy Spirit.

"It is the Spirit who gives life, the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you, they are Spirit and they are life" (St. John 6:63).

Although Jesus came to reveal the heart of the Father, his greatest mission was more so to die on the cross in payment of sins, so sinners can be reconciled back to God. If Jesus did not come to die in payment for sins, there is then no reason for Jesus to come. Before Jesus came, God has been revealing himself to the people through the prophets for years. What made Jesus different from all the prophets before him was his death as ransom for our sins. Jesus directly talked about this during the Last Supper with his disciples, because he came to issue a new covenant sealed with his blood.

"This cup is the new covenant in my blood which is shed for you" (St. Luke 22:20).

The greatest part of Jesus coming to earth was his dying on the cross because his blood not only purified us, and the earthly temples, but also the temple is Heaven. When Jesus entered Heaven, after resurrection, he took his own blood, as a high priest would do in the Old Testament. Jesus entered the Holy of the Holiest in Heaven carrying his own blood without blemish to make intersection for us sinners. Without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sins. Jesus’ blood wipes ALL our sins if we choose to believe in him.

"Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with his own blood, he entered the Most Holy Place (in Heaven) once for all, having obtained eternal redemption" (Hebrew 9:12).

I just need to set the record straight about Jesus from what other people may be making him to be. We cannot define Jesus our ways; otherwise we create an idol different from Jesus. Part of the error of human nature is to define who we are by what we look like in our physical body. Your body does not define who you are; it is just a house you live in. How many people can carry their physical homes with them to work everyday? The chances everybody who knows you have seen your home is very slim except if you throw a party everyday in your house. However, that physical home does not define you. Your human spirit helps to define who you are in alignment with the Holy Spirit. Without the Holy Spirit, your human spirit goes astray. Consequently, people who are tuning to the flesh and asking for answers are only relating to human emotions. When they enter the spirit realm, it is only through the human spirit. We lose our focus only when we tuned to the human spirit and ignore the Holy Spirit. You cannot tell God who you are. You did not create yourself. God did. There is no consciousness without God. Humans are not God! God is the one who opens the window of knowledge and wisdom according to Jesus. Human soul is wounded and diseased. Why should we turn to a sick person for healing when Jesus is a disease free healer? I dealt with this issue in more detail in chapters 34 and 40 of my forthcoming book, Closer Walk With Jesus. Sometimes the arrogance of human nature wants to define God in his own terms. Many people in the past who tried to define God on their own terms failed. Only God leads us through Jesus with the help of the Holy Spirit to reveal the desires of the Father. Being led to the will of God is the secret to true joy in life. Being self-absorbed may lead to a life of despair and persistent depression regardless of our achievements. If you are looking for true love, joy, peace and contentment, PLEASE do not tune to human emotions, but rather actively seek the presence of God daily in your life.

"He leads me besides the still waters. He restores my soul" (Psalm 23:2-3).

"In his presence is the fullness of joy. In his right hands are pleasures forever more" (Psalm 16:11).
