Empowerment Energy of the Holy Spirit

When God created the earth, he also created the energy within different living systems. Without the continuous supply of energy, the system will die. If we turn off the stove, the water stops boiling. Similarly, when the supply of energy stops, the living system will eventually collapse. There are physical, chemical, emotional, electric, magnetic, and spiritual energies. Without these energies a living system cannot function. Humans have this unique spiritual energy in addition to those energies needed for a functioning living organism. Being immersed in this spiritual energy makes us superior to other animals God created.

As a Christian, and a preacher of the word of God, I have noticed many churches that function based on the regular Sunday service as rituals as if in a club, and completely devoid of the energy or fire of the Holy Spirit. The objective of this article is to help Christians especially preachers to understand the process of attaining and sustaining the energy of the Holy Spirit. It is designed to help Christians access the functionality of this wonderful supernatural power God has given to us through Jesus by the Holy Spirit. Jesus was the first person to declare this power in the book of Acts when he said, "You shall have power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you" (Acts 1:8). This is the energy of the Holy Spirit. Today, some people refer to this as the Holy fire.

This holy fire should be differentiated from the regular human spiritual energy that God gives to every human being through the human spirit to stay alive. The person who supplies this human spiritual energy is the human spirit. Once the human spirit comes out of the body during the death process, the human body begins the process of shutting down - - the dying process. As long as the human spirit is inside the human body, the body cannot die because the human body is connected to the source of the energy that keeps it alive. Conversely, before the body dies, the human spirit-soul complex must first come out of the physical body. The human body cannot die with the human spirit trapped inside. People who have had an out of body experience understand the process of the human spirit temporarily coming out, and returning to the physical body. This at times can be a scary experience.

The energy of the Holy Spirit is different. When Jesus gave the disciples and all Christians this spiritual energy, he immediately declared how the energy should be used. He told his disciples, "You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and on to the end of the world." This spiritual energy according to Jesus is meant for ministry to other people, not to be making money and swelling up the bank account of the preachers. Remember when Jesus sent his disciples. He said, "Freely you receive, freely you give" (St. Matthew 10:8). If any person anointed by God has been charging people money to minister to them with the power of the Spirit of God, it’s time for repentance.

Characteristics of Spiritual Energy

Once a person is engulfed in the energy of the Holy Spirit, it affects the body especially from the central part where the human soul-spirit complex resides around the abdominal-chest area. For lack of a better word, the person feels the euphoria-high of the Holy Spirit. The energy lifts a person’s soul and propels that person’s spirit to a higher spiritual dimension from the regular every day experience. All Christians who have been baptized by the Holy Spirit are indwelling with this energy. But the energy burns low because we refuse to read the word of God, meditate on the word, pray and fast. We need a daily devotion with God no matter how short a period of time we are able to do this daily. Since we are addicted to the flesh we tend to take things of the spirit for granted. The human body is only a house or a shell the human soul-spirit complex resides.

I have experienced this spiritual energy so high during fasting; I felt my body was about to explode. When this happens, I start to beg the Lord to help reduce the intensity of this energy. Under such intensity of the energy of the Holy Spirit is the feeling of joy, peace and serenity. At times however, the energy can be so intense, I feel that my body is floating in the air because I am so engulfed with this supernatural energy of God. When my physical body feels uncomfortable during this energy high, the best way to release the energy is to go and preach or witness to somebody. Afterwards, the energy will dissipate and I will physically feel better. Jesus was right, the power is supposed to be used for witnessing to others.

During the period of time a person is high and engulfed with the energy of the Holy Spirit, people who are Christians will gravitate towards the person. The person becomes a walking spiritual magnet. It is highly important to know that people are not attracted to the person, but to the radiance of the glory of God that manifests as a result of the fire of the Holy Spirit the person is engulfed in. Consequently, please do not abuse such a privilege; use such attraction to minister to people. On the other hand, people possessed with demonic spirit or who operate with negative spirits will be repulsed. In some instances they may start a fight and at other times they may trembled before the person that is on fire for the Lord. I have experienced both. Many people are operating on different spirits, even among Christians in spite of the presence of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. They way I tend to recognize such people is when I’m very high in the Holy Spirit and those that start a fight or feel repulsion at my presence. Most of the time those people with negative spirits tend to distance themselves from me while those operating with the Holy Spirit become attracted. Do not be offended when people possessed with demonic spirits, or operating on negative spirits are repulsed at your presence while you are high in the power of the Holy Spirit. They are victims too being oppressed by demons without realizing it. The best thing is to pray for such people to be set free from the oppression of the devil.

When we are high in the Spirit of God is when Jesus says we should worship God. That was why Jesus said, "God is a Spirit, those who worship him must worship him in Spirit and in truth" (John 4:24). The Spirit Jesus was talking about was not the human spirit, but the Holy Spirit. As humans, we communicate to God through our human spirit, but the Holy Spirit through Jesus is the one that helps us to make that connection. Jesus is the living tabernacle of God; through him we experience the true God the Almighty. During this time of supernatural manifestations of the energy of God is when we experience the opening of the Portals of Heaven, and the presence of angelic beings. At this time, we also experience God’s presence, and at such moment is when miracles tend to happen, including healing.

We also need to differentiate emotional craziness from the real manifestations of the Holy Spirit. We don’t have to be running down the church aisle or knocking the church pews over, although all these can happen under the influence of the Holy Spirit. Unfortunately, many times when such things happen today during church service, they are about the display of human emotions, not the Holy Spirit. You can stand still and tremble with the manifestations of the Holy Spirit. You don’t have to conduct the theatrical display of running down the church aisle, or jumping over the pews and knocking down the elders and senior citizens while the security is chasing behind you. We sometimes do this when we get excited and going through motions during church service.

Spiritual Energy May Dissipate

Being engulfed with the fire of the Holy Spirit is wonderful, but if the intensity is too great, it can at times be physically unpleasant. Very importantly, when a person is engulfed with the power of the Holy Spirit every thing being enjoyed in the flesh loses its attraction. It is very difficult to enjoy food, sex, drink, or other things basically restricted to the flesh because the human soul is on fire. At times, I have heard some uninformed preachers saying that when a person is high in the Spirit of God is the time to have the greatest orgasm. This is a fallacy! It is absolute nonsense! Jesus clarified this in his conversation with Nicodemus, when he said, "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is the spirit" (John 3:6). So, please don’t mix the two.

By nature, we humans go back and forth between highs and lows of the manifestations of the energy of the Spirit of God. Like any other energy it can be depleted when it burns low, and it can be replenished with this Holy energy of God. When the energy burns low, we are not effective witnesses for the Lord. Therefore, before a person, (or a group of people) goes to witness, mounting of the power of the Holy Spirit is critical. Otherwise, the person may end up being the play toy for the enemy.

The depleting of the spiritual energy was well demonstrated in the book of Acts, chapter 4, after the day of Pentecost, when the disciples were threatened. The incident that happened with the disciples help us to better understand how human negative emotions can nullify or quickly deplete the energy of the Holy Spirit. One of the easiest ways to deplete a person of the spiritual energy of the Holy Spirit is FEAR. When the religious readers in the temple threatened the disciples, because the disciples were preaching Jesus, the disciples were afraid. Realizing their emotional state and their vulnerability, they started praying to God for more spiritual empowerment. This spiritual empowerment helped them to preach the word of God with boldness. There is nothing that can drain a Christian of spiritual power very fast as negative emotions. Such negative emotions as fear, greed, pride, hate, bitterness, or due to habitual sin can drain a person of spiritual energy. People talk about lack of forgiveness is the root of unanswered prayer; this is not necessarily accurate. The human negative emotions that are generated due to fear, lack of forgiveness, hate, pride arrogance, all these tend to be blockers of our prayer. This is because God is the light. He dwells in the midst of a giant positive energy; negative human emotion generates negative spiritual energy, and is therefore repulsive to God because of our unrighteous indignation. This was why Jesus specifically said that we must worship God in the Spirit of the Holiness of God to make that divine connection during worship. Before such worship, however, we must prepare ourselves to enter into the thrown of grace to approach God in his Holiness.

Prophet Elijah experienced the same problem with fear when Jezebel put out a death contract on him for killing the Baal prophets. Elijah was a powerful prophet who was able to call down physical fire from Heaven. When he was threatened, he was afraid, he took off running. Perhaps Elijah running for his life was not the issue as much as he was overcome with the spirit of fear. In the story, Elijah must have had repeated fear for a long time while running for his life because he started to feel depression. In many cases, continuous fear and anxiety for a long time will eventually lead to depression. When Elijah was experiencing depression, he was not only unable to think straight, he was suicidal.

And he prayed that he might die and said, "It is enough! Now, Lord take my life, for I am no better than my fathers" (I King 19:4).

The first thing God did was to feed Prophet Elijah when he appeared to him in the wilderness under the broom tree. He corrected his misconception, replenished his spiritual energy, and gave him instructions, so Elijah could go back home. In that instruction God already realized Elijah was tired. Consequently, he started preparing him for his retirement out of the ministry. God asked Elijah to anoint Elisha the son of Shaphat as a prophet in his place (I King 19:16).

Regaining Spiritual Energy

When our spirit energy burns low, the best thing to do is to go to the Lord in prayer, go into meditation, and fasting. We should not allow the spirit of fear to cripple us as Christians, especially when facing oppositions or mockery. The spirit of fear is one of the powerful weapons of the devil against Christians. "God did not give us the Spirit of fear, but of power, love and sound mind" (II Timothy 1:7).

When the disciples could not heal a sick child, the disciples were embarrassed. They then went to ask Jesus why they were unable to heal even though at that time they had no indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Jesus in his answer to his disciples gave clues about spiritual empowerment by saying, "However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting" (St. Matthew 17:21).

The simple process of spiritual empowerment is to be reading and meditating on the word of God, fasting and praying with daily devotion. Fasting may not be possible everyday; perhaps once or twice a week can be sufficient. The purpose of fasting is not for God as some people may think. Fasting denies the flesh to accentuate the Spirit of God in us - - it energizes our spiritual empowerment and brings us closer to God. When we deny the body, it takes us temporarily out of the flesh and plunges us into the spiritual realm of God allowing for the process of spiritual ascension.

Defeating an Oppressive Spirit

Unfortunately many Christians place themselves at the mercy of oppressive spirits without realizing it. When we binge continuously on negative emotions is one of the easiest ways to open a wide door for the enemy to come and attach to our soul. Christians possessed by the Holy Spirit cannot be possessed by demonic spirits. However, negative spirits can attach to the outer wall of human soul and do a lot of havoc. These spirits are very elusive and smart because they tend to tag along without people perception because they stay on the outer wall of human perception. All of a sudden, a person perceives the feeling of anger, hate, jealousy, bitterness, pride and putting other people down. There are some of the strategies of the enemy. Instead of us finding the reason for such perception, we justify the feeling and started to wage emotional war against an opponent leading to lack of forgiveness. In some cases, these negative feelings perpetuated by the enemy may lead to a fight between husband and wife, between siblings, or even between church members.

Sadly, some people continuously ride on the energy of demonic spirits and they don’t have a clue. They will say something like, "This is me! This is how I am." They don’t realize it is the demon that is speaking through them. Such people come to church and get angry and very destructive of programs especially the ones that do not involve them because they feel left out. Anything that does not give them credit, they want to destroy because this is how the devil operates. The devil wants people to worship him thereby leading people away from God because the devil is egocentric. Some church leaders place themselves as the center of worship instead of God. When a good person spends time with such people riding on demonic spirit, the demons can leap and become attached. All of a sudden a person not used to such negative activities started to see unusual occurrences of negative nature happening around him or her. At this moment, get the Bible, rebuke the demons, cast them out with Psalm 91 and banned them from ever becoming attached to you again. Then, invite the ministering Spirits of God and angelic forces to take positions so the locations are not left empty.

Many Christians who do not believe in the operation of the supernatural are easy prey for demonic influences. There is God supernatural, and there is also demonic supernatural. People who do not believe in the invisible realm tend to confuse the work of the devil with their own personality not realizing they have allowed the devil to build a stronghold around them. Then, the devil will then use them as his puppet. At other times, people carrying around these negative spirits will enter your home and drop some of the negative spirits. The next thing you experience is negative emotions especially anger, sadness, depression, or despair. You start experiencing fighting between husband and wife and between the children and their parents. They have no clue they have a residential evil-being living in their home. In every case of murder inside a home, by family members, there is always the presence of demonic spirits pushing people’s emotional button. Jesus says, "The thief comes but to steal kill and destroy, but I have come so they may have life, and life abundantly" (St. John 10:10).

Remember the words of the old song.

Christian seek not yet repose.

Hear thy guarding angel sing

Ambush lies the evil one.

Watch and pray.

Anytime you feel the presence of a negative entity, spirit in the house, or an unusual presence, immediately get your Bible, take authority through St. Luke 10:19 and read Psalm 91 to blast off the enemy from your dwelling place. As a Christian, you are empowered to cast the enemy out of your home. It is also critical to re-ignite and recharge your Holy Spirit energy before waging war against the enemy. Take command of your day and blast the head of the enemy off with the power of the Holy Spirit. Familiar spirits are difficult to get rid off because they already received permission to stay at the location, including people having a romantic relationship with such spirits. Unfortunately, some Christians have developed intimate relationship with negative spirits. They start to have spiritual intimacy with demonic spirits. At times, the demons will rape them in their sleep. People do not realize that their negative emotions open a wider door for the enemy to camp around them because the devil rides on negative human emotions. Those spirits are very difficult to get rid off because the person having a love affair with them will not let go. After the demons have been lurking with a person for a while giving a false sense of security, at an unexpected time, it will push the person off the cliff. Then, disasters happen and people wonder why.

Worshipping God in the Spirit

Worshipping of God should never be on Sundays alone. Believers can worship God daily in their homes during daily prayer, meditation on the word of God, and during private devotion. Creating the atmosphere of worship is high important while accessing the realm of God through the Holy Spirit. If the atmosphere is not right, the power of God will not manifest during prayer. The key is preparation whether praying at home or inside the church. It is easier to create that atmosphere of worship in the privacy of home than inside the church due to many spiritual deterrence and distractions. Different church members bring different negative spirits lurking around them to the church. This creates a distraction for the manifestation of the presence of God. Many preachers are unaware of this because they do not understand the process of the spiritual manifestations. The Spirit of God will not manifest in the atmosphere chaos, or where many demons are having a party inside the church except if the atmosphere is cleared of their presence.

Once the Spirit of God manifests, the Portal Gates of Heaven open up, and there is a divine connection between the human soul and the Eternal Spirit leading to a spiritual ascension. Such moment is when real worship takes place as the dimension of atmosphere manifests the presence of God. All kinds of supernatural events will take place, including healing, as the energy of God reveals his presence and spiritual communion takes place between the spirit of God and that of man. This is what Jesus referred to as worshipping God in the Spirit.

The Mystery of the Invisible World

Unfortunately because of the affluence nature of U.S. society today, we tend to forget the nature of the spirit realm which was the first thing Jesus declared to his disciples at the beginning of his ministry. "Most assuredly, I say to you, hereafter you shall see Heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man" (St. John 1:51). This was how Jesus proclaimed his own deity by introducing his disciples to the opening of the Portals of Heaven into the invisible realm.

The greater part of God’s creation took place in the invisible realm on three different levels. The first is God’s creation of created beings within himself. Any creation God made was first manifested in the heart of God. "In him was life, and the life was the light of men" (St. John1:4). The second level of creation happened in the spirit realm when God created human spirits in the invisible realm. "God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female, He created them" (Genesis 1:27). Perhaps people may look at this verse of the Bible in a literary way thinking God is hermaphroditic. No! God is a Spirit, not a physical body. Thinking that God is a physical body is wrong. What the Bible is telling us is that, God created man based on the blue print of image he already created within himself. "When I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth, your eyes saw my substance being yet unformed" (Psalm 139:15). These verses make me laugh when people say life begins at conception because they don’t know the Bible. Life begins in the heart of God and in the spirit realm where man is initially formed.

Human physical manifestation is therefore similar or a representation of image God already designed within himself. Once the human spirits were created, they were capable of perception, even prior to physical manifestation, even though they had no physical body. Very importantly, every human that arrives on earth in a body has a prior existence in the spirit realm. Consequent, such a spiritual existence happened prior to earthly experience. Every person that would eventually appear on earth was already created by God at the time of creation prior to creating human physical body. The third creation is of course the creation of the physical body and the insertion of the human spirit inside that physical body which Jesus himself demonstrated very well at the pre-incarnate Jesus and his appearance on earth as a baby. After life on earth which is the cycle of the physical body on earth, the body dies after completion of life, and the human spirit goes back into the spirit realm.

Many of the events in the physical realm represent events that already took place in the spirit realm. Vision is having access to see into the invisible realm of the spirit, the event that may be happening on earth. For example, on top of the mountain, God revealed to Moses the original Ark of Covenant prior to Moses making a duplicate on earth. He first showed Moses the image of the Ark in Heaven, and therefore asked him to make a replica on earth. Similarly, most of the events happening to us in the earthly realm are initially manifested in the spirit realm. The earthly actions we see are just the physical manifestations of what had already been recorded in the spirit realm. The relevance therefore is, the power of prayer to change unpleasant events that already manifested in the spirit realm that is about to happen in the physical realm. Jesus prayed the prayer for Peter when he said, "And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of Heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in Heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in Heaven" (St. Matthew 16:19). Jesus was telling Peter and the rest of the disciples that, they have power to influence things on earth through prayer, because he (Jesus) had given them the power to access the spiritual realm of God in Heaven to change things.

Lack of spiritual discipline is the key to many of the social problems emerging and plaguing Christians today. The devil is deceiving many Christians as the church is unfortunately becoming more secular. In the first three chapters of the Book of Revelation, Jesus warned the church about this type of problems emerging today.
